Paul and Anne Mechling
Zanesville Primrose: Paul and Anne Mechling moved to Primrose Retirement Community in Zanesville, Ohio, in January 2009, after deciding to leave their farm in Thornville because of some issues with Paul’s health. They found that “the house and yard kept getting bigger,” and the farm became too much to maintain. They are glad their children pushed them into making a decision to leave the farm for a worry-free life.
In looking for a new apartment home, they spent a day visiting several retirement communities with their children. After walking into Primrose and touring with Shala, they immediately knew that Primrose would meet their senior living needs. The Primrose apartment home they chose allowed Paul to receive the assisted living care he required, and accommodated Anne’s independent living needs.
The Mechlings invited many of their friends and family to visit them at Primrose on a regular basis. They have invited their church circle and the Retired Teacher’s Group to come and visit in the near future. Anne’s birthday party will also be celebrated very soon. So far, Paul and Anne have hosted two Christmas parties, numerous birthday parties and many family get-togethers.
Paul and Anne continue to host celebrations at Primrose because of the excellent food and service. The also enjoy showing off the decor to the friends who haven’t yet seen their Zanesville retirement community.
Their zest for life keeps them involved in many of the senior activities found at Primrose including art classes, baking, craft classes, Wii games, Bible study, singing, sewing projects, chair volleyball and the Tai Chi/Sr. exercise classes — they like to stay active and have met a lot of new friends since moving to Primrose. (You’ll rarely find them in their apartment home.)
Bigger events like the Valentine parties, St. Patrick’s Day parties, Happy Hour each month and the Primrose Anniversary Party are also the source of much of their enjoyment. They love group outings and community celebrations where all the residents can visit with each other and have fun. The Mechlings enjoy the convenience of attending weekly church services at the Chapel at Primrose, which they describe as being full every Sunday.
Anne says the staff is “dedicated and caring and they are always ready to meet our needs. We only have to ask for assistance and it is taken care of.”
Aside from the amenities and spacious apartments, the Mechlings believe that Primrose Retirement Community is focused on the residents. Anne also loves the laundry facility being so close to their apartment, and says they could not have it any better.
Paul and Anne say, “Primrose is the ULTIMATE place for us to spend our retirement years!”
