When did you start working at the community?

I started working at the Kansas City Primrose community in August of 2003. I just recently celebrated my 10 year anniversary.

Why did you choose to work for Primrose?

The reason I started working at Primrose is because I have a passion for working with seniors. In total, I have worked in senior communities for about 20 years. I’ve always enjoyed helping them and hearing the things that they’ve experienced over the course of their lives.

What are some of your favorite memories of working here?

I have many fond memories in my 10 years in this community but a few of my favorites are being a witness at the wedding of two residents. Don and Marian moved into our community not knowing each other and ended up not only falling in love but getting married. They had their ceremony in the lobby with both their families and included all the residents and employees. It was truly an honor to be included in their special day.

Another great moment was being there to see a very special woman, Helen, turn 100 years old. I think we can all agree that turning 100 is quite a momentous occasion! And since then, we’ve been able to celebrate 6 more birthdays with Helen! She’s quite a lady!

Also, twice a year we have parties to celebrate our residents and our community. The residents invite their families in the summer for a Summer Bash and in the winter we have a Holiday Open House complete with special musical entertainment and fine food created by our chef, Phillip Martin. It’s always a great time to get acquainted with residents’ families.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job would have to be seeing the smiles on the faces of the residents. It’s truly rewarding to feel the appreciation from the residents when I can help them with things that they can no longer do or just don’t want to do anymore. Because let’s face it, who wants to clean their apartment when they’re retired!

What are your personal hobbies?

My favorite things to do in my spare time are spend time with my family and friends. I’m getting married in two months and that has been a huge but happy event to get ready for! In the summertime, I enjoy going to a friend’s farmhouse in Iowa. While there I enjoy fishing, riding four-wheelers, and just enjoying the quiet country life. Last year I went on my first float trip, and I’m looking forward to my next trip down the river with good friends!
