Primrose of Pueblo was proud to present “The Quilts of Dixie Moorcroft” on February 11, 2014. Dixie is a resident at Primrose of Pueblo who has an exquisite hobby! She has been quilting for years and the results are breathtaking. Gina Drown, Executive Director, said, “When Dixie moved in she told us that she had to have a 2 Bedroom apartment so she could have a room for quilting. I pictured her sitting in a rocking chair and quilting by hand in the evening before going to bed. Boy was I wrong! She has 3 state-of-the-art sewing machines along with numerous other machines! It looks like a factory in there — she is serious about her quilting!”
And indeed, her seriousness about quilting shows as you view the number of awards that she has won for her quilts. Her favorite quilt is the “Cats” quilt that she informs us, “my niece “borrowed” that one from me!” Her prized quilt is the pink and white one that she proudly displays on her bed. Each square is a little different and has thousands of quilted stitches. All of the quilts are colorful and durable. She does not just quilt bedspreads, though! She turns the quilting into wearable art with her matching jackets and purses, creates beautiful dolls and wall hangings and even quilts Christmas decorations.
The crowd that came to view the quilts was overwhelming…we may have to re-show these treasures! Won’t you join us?
