SHAWNEE, OK – Primrose Retirement Community of Shawnee now features a space specifically focused on honoring Shawnee area veterans. Over the last few weeks, the retirement community, located on Bryant Avenue, has taken steps to convert one of the common areas in the building to become the Primrose Veterans’ Lounge. The space features uniforms and emblems of all the branches of the United States Armed Forces, as well as photographs of residents during their times of service and booklets compiled by residents on various aspects of the Armed Forces.
A dedication ceremony is planned for Wednesday, January 29th at 2:00 PM at Primrose. The event will be open to the public and media. A number of elected officials and political candidates will also be in attendance.
“It’s really been a wonderful project,” said Primrose Director of Marketing Rachael Geiger, who has spearheaded the effort. “We’ve heard amazing stories, and we’ve seen some incredible friendships form as a result of this space.”
Geiger said the idea came about as a result of a resident pointing out a need for such a space in the community. The Primrose Veterans’ Lounge is open to the public and the retirement community already has plans to host a number of groups and events from within the Shawnee community in the space.
“This place is absolutely open to the public, and we invite anyone who is interested to come see this tribute to our nation’s veterans.”
Primrose Retirement Community is open to the public from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day, though other times are available upon request. Anyone interested in finding out more or in reserving the space for an event can contact Geiger at 405-273-0925.
