On June 24th, from 5-7 PM in front of Primrose Kansas City, we hosted our annual Summer Bash. For the past several weeks, residents have been inviting their families and friends to join them at the picnic, and with well over 350 guests, the turnout was awesome!

Chef Phillip prepared a fantastic meal. The menu included pulled pork sliders, corndogs, coleslaw, potato salad, corn on the cob, and Jen Ohare’s famous baked beans. Guests chose their drink from a trough filled with bottled water, lemonade, soda, iced tea, and more. Giant wedges of watermelon and strawberry shortcake were served as dessert.

Rhonda, personal banker at our in-house branch of Bank Midwest, supplied two $25 gift cards to Olive Garden and two well stocked gift baskets as door prizes. Interim Home Health and Private Duty, our on-site care agency, provided a glass beverage jug with a spout as a door prize while also handing out pens, reusable shopping bags, and other items as free giveaways. Primrose added gift cards to Panera, Wal-Mart, and Hy-Vee as door prizes as well.

Front desk staff Paula manned the barnyard themed bounce house, and boy did those kids have a blast! There were constant bouncers having a jolly time, finally exiting with giggles, smiles, and comments like, “That was fun!” Housekeepers Jennifer and Brenda made more snow cones than you can imagine, dousing them with blue raspberry, cherry, and grape flavors. Even residents were showing us their crazy colored tongues! At the same time, I was busy running the cotton candy machine. On top of the dozens of fluffy, sugary treats I produced, by the end of the night, I was covered with sticky sugar and was a sight to see for sure.

Nearby, the face painting station was busy throughout the evening. Servers Jennie and Sarah decorated the faces of nearly every child guest and many of the residents, too. Resident Harriett chose a purple butterfly to adorn her right cheek.

Conversations with nearly 20 residents between last night and this morning were filled with rave reviews for our country hoedown themed Summer Bash. Resident Bette commented, “It was a great party, so well organized and lots of fun. I can’t wait for next year.” And so the countdown begins…
