Happy Valentine’s Day from the staff and residents in Council Bluffs, Iowa! Spring is right around the corner because the sun is staying out a little later each day and the birds have begun to sing while the snow is melting!
On February 11th, a volunteer group from the local community college, Iowa Western, threw Primrose a Valentine’s Day Dance. A number of male volunteers danced the afternoon away with the ladies. Many said it reminded them of “the good old days,” when they would dance all night with their sweethearts. The volunteers also provided treats and festive music.
Also happening in February is our annual Mardi Gras party. This year Mardi Gras actually falls in March but we’ve decided to start the celebration a little early, on February 24th. Our Primrose chefs are going to make a batch of jambalaya along with red rice and beans. They will also bake the traditional “king cake.” To those who are not familiar with this type of cake, it is sort of like a like a cinnamon roll, rolled out and formed into a circle. A small plastic baby is baked in the dough and whoever is served the piece with the baby is the king or queen of Mardi Gras! Residents will wear masks and beads in typical Mardi Gras fashion and Tim Jarvosky, a local jazz musician favorite, will be the entertainment.
