Veterans attend Primrose Soup and Pie Supper

Council Bluffs Primrose
On the eleventh day of the eleventh month each year we honor our nation’s veterans, the men and women who have served or are currently serving our country. To Primrose, it is a day that we celebrate our veterans.

The day started off with a free breakfast for all veterans, offered by the local Hy-Vee. Later, Primrose held its third annual soup and pie supper in honor of Veterans Day. About 300 people were served. Music entertainment was provided by local saxophonist, Tim Jarvosky, as he played an array of patriotic tunes. He also played “Taps” which made for a teary-eyed crowd. Flossie Shanks wrapped up the evening by reading her patriotic poem, Leading the Way, and presenting a certificate of service to each of our 22 veterans.

“Leading the Way”

Dear Soldier boys, for you we pray
We give you thanks for leading the way
For our hope in the future
That someday we may
Have peace and freedom
And live again as we might,
Loving and care,
In our dear Lord’s sight.
Unity and change,
Is what it all will take
To reconcile all factors
For honors sake
The losses we’ve suffered,
Heartaches, how sad,
Faith and reality
Is all that we’ve had
We all desire
And the impact must come
God Bless you dear soldiers
And where you come from
Thanks again is all we can say
Thank you dear soldiers for leading the way.
