Burchell High School Dancers
Velma Jean jives!
On a recent Wednesday afternoon several residents came to the Garden Café because they heard what sounded like a large man laughing.
As they peeked their heads around the corner what they saw were dancers from Burchell High School’s three dance classes getting ready for a performance.
As everyone took their seats, the residents were treated to 2 hours of slapstick, tap, jazz, Broadway numbers, a foxtrot, a two-step and even some jive! All 25 dancers were dressed as elves, and Santa sat with the residents to watch the show.
The highlight of the show came afterwards, when each dancer came and greeted Primrose residents with hugs and smiles and candy canes!
During the holiday season it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, but that wonderful Wednesday we were all reminded that it’s the little things, like a song or a hug, that show us the true meaning of the holiday spirit. Thank you so much to the Burchell High School Dancers for entertaining us on a wintery December afternoon!

Ervin and a Girl Scout playing Bingo
Mabel and Lois working on Christmas ornaments with the help of a Girl Scout
On Sunday, December 4th a local Girl Scout Troop visited the Primrose of Bismarck. The Girl Scout Daisies were working on earning a badge. They entertained residents by singing Christmas songs, and they made jingle bell necklaces and used them as props while singing. Afterward, they passed out a jingle bell necklace to each Primrose resident.
Bingo time! While a scout leader called numbers, the girls handed out prizes with special Christmas greetings attached to each one.
Following bingo, the girl scouts treated the residents to homemade cookies and other holiday goodies. More Christmas songs followed along with jolly seasonal laughter.
An arts and crafts project topped off the day, where every Girl Scout personally helped a Primrose resident make a Christmas ornament.

Primrose of Council Bluffs has their own Red Hat Group, deemed the “Primrose Rosettes.” The Rosettes have a monthly breakfast & lunch outing and are in their second year of collecting canned goods and toiletries for the less fortunate in the community. The sewing club never stops! The ladies have created some of the most beautiful quilts for auction and have made over $500 in sales. They also give back to the community and sponsor a hat & mitten tree for children. Primrose University continues to grow as a different subject is introduced each month to offer a continuing education for our tenants.
For December, we are preparing for the festivities with a visit from Santa, entertainment, a trip to see our tree at the Dodge House that was created by the tenants and gingerbread houses to be made with a local Girl Scout troop. We have the Bridge Club, Card Sharks and BINGO players who meet on a regular basis for some friendly competitive games. These are all just a few activities that the tenants at Primrose of Council Bluffs are involved in on a daily and monthly basis.
So, with that being said, we look onward and upward to a new year with much fun in store!
