Pueblo, CO, Retirement Communities

Primrose Retirement Community of Pueblo selected Emily Sutton to represent us at the annual Silver Queen Pageant on Friday July 31st. The event was hosted by Sangre de Cristo Hospice and took place at the Pueblo State Fair Grounds. Emily went up against 15 other lovely ladies who displayed their talent and were interviewed by charming emcee David Ritterling. The entire day was magical.

Emily sported a stylish new outfit that Executive Director Glinda MacKenzie helped her select on a shopping expedition the previous week. Sales Director Kelsey Gibson and Administrative Assistant Kendall Babler decorated her walker with matching flowers and ribbons. Son Peter and daughter-in-law Melanie surprised her by arriving at Primrose early that morning. For the entire day, Emily was surrounded by the Management Team led by ED Glinda, her chosen daughter Sandy, and 2 close Primrose resident friends, Father Tom Adrians and Kathy Snidar. Before the entourage boarded the Primrose Bus, driven by Maintenance Director Mike DeCarlo, Director of Nursing Cathy Karpilo and Life Enrichment Director Barbara Della Rossa asked Father Tom to say a prayer. Once at the venue Emily had makeup applied by Mary Kay volunteers, a corsage pinned on and was presented with a bag of goodies. After a few light appetizers and live music, the ceremony began and she was escorted to the front of the auditorium by none other than handsome CSU Football star Brian Jones.

The magic really began when she captivated the entire auditorium with her puppet dog “Nebbie” and in telling the “True Story of the 3 Little Pigs.” Despite the fire alarm going off (a clerk was testing it that day) in the middle of her story, she forged on, received a standing ovation from many, and a thunderous applause from all. Whether she is crowned “The Silver Queen of Pueblo” on September 3rd on Senior Day at the Pueblo State Fair or not, she is our Silver Queen at Primrose of Pueblo, where this is living.
