Spring Parties at our Senior Community in Grand Island

By | May 3, 2010

Spring was celebrated with a “Welcome Spring” party at the Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island, NE. Signs of spring have sprouted, risen and bloomed throughout the community. The party for seniors included sharing favorite memories about the signs of spring, discussing what the various spring colors reminded us of and the residents and staff planting flower seeds. Our Primrose seniors have had fun monitoring and reporting the progress of the sprouting seeds.

Another of our spring festivities was “Kite Flying Day.” Both residents and staff enjoyed the fresh air, learned kite trivia (they originated in China), and watched the kite flyers while munching on fortune cookies.

Residents also incubated chicken eggs, complete with a candling day. There was tremendous excitement when the little chicks began arriving. Visiting children shared in the excitement before the chicks left for their destination on a nearby farm. It was fun to watch the chicks in their various hues of yellow, black and a mix of colors!

Our Grand Island Primrose now has a raised garden complete with rich soil added to our patio to use for easy-to-reach resident gardening this spring and summer. The seeds and plants are in the soil and everybody is excited about watching their progress. Yes, spring is in the air and we’re all so glad!

Patio parties at Primrose will be starting soon and our “Walk ‘n Talk” sessions have migrated outdoors. Starting in May, our walking group will move outside from walking at the mall to walking at the park for early Thursday morning exercise. All of our active residents want to capture every opportunity to enjoy the nice weather.
