Baseball Day at our Mankato Senior Living Community

By | April 29, 2010

Primrose Mankato: Many of our residents at the Mankato Primrose Retirement Community are huge Twins fans, and residents and staff alike could sense the baseball buzz in our community in the weeks leading up to the first game!

One of the surest signs of spring in the Midwest is the return of baseball season. In Minnesota, it means Minnesota Twins Baseball. The Twins not only kicked off their new season recently but also brought some nostalgia to the sport with the opening of their new, highly anticipated outdoor stadium, Target Field.

Rachel Carpenter, the Mankato Primrose Life Enrichment Coordinator, thought it would be fun to celebrate the start of the season with “Baseball Day.” Residents played baseball-themed games, enjoyed a “Ballpark” lunch, and dressed up in anything Twins-themed. Additionally, there was a prize drawing for anyone who wore baseball attire.

No umpires were harmed during the activity.

Anne “Nanny” Clements

Resident Anne “Nanny” Clements, who is relatively new to Minnesota and loves baseball, has quickly become a fan of the Twins. Nanny really wanted to participate in all of the festivities but she didn’t have any Twins apparel to wear. So Nanny got creative and made her own “Twins Baseball” shirt out of newspaper clippings and pictures of the Twins! She was very proud of her creation and the other residents got a kick out of “reading” her shirt. Says Nanny, “I wanted to dress-up so I had to make my own shirt…hopefully I will get a real one soon!”

After lunch, the residents and some of the staff went upstairs and watched the game together in the Community Room, enjoying refreshing lemonade and Cracker Jacks! It was a great day, celebrating a beloved pastime and home team of so many of our residents, even those who are new to Minnesota and Twins baseball.
