Outstanding employee, Janet Akers
Surprised is how Janet Akers decribed her feelings when she learned she had been selected Employee of the Month by her peers.
“I’m overwhelmed that I was that well liked,” Janet said. “I guess it took a while to sink in. I do appreciate all the help from the aides that come in and pull extra laundry.”
Janet came to the Marion Primrose in July 2006 from Sterling House. She has 22 years experience as a resident aide. In October 2012, she was asked if she would like to take over the laundry duties and has done so. Residents have remarked how nice it is to have their clothing returned nicely folded and on hangers. Janet even puts their laundry away in dressers and cupboards — again above and beyond the call of duty — the exact reason she was selected for this honor by her peers.
Janet said she loves working at Primrose and enjoys the residents. “It’s a good atmosphere,” she said. “The hardest is losing residents. You get close to them, talk to them and console them when they are distressed.”
When not at work, Janet enjoys riding her horse Blondie and spending time with her granddaughter, Kendal, age 8. Her husband, Gene, son, Shane and his wife, Val, complete her family.
Congratulations Janet on a job well done!
