Have you found yourself slipping into that post-holiday slump lately? Are the cold weather and shorter days getting you down? Well, you are not alone! Experts say that January is a very common month to start feeling the “Blues.” The good news is that the answer is really quite simple –just try having a good laugh.
Have you heard the expression “Laughter is the best medicine?” Well, it seems that there is some real scientific truth to that. According to recent scientific studies, laughter has been shown to:
– lower blood pressure
– improve the transport of oxygen through the blood vessels
– reduce stress hormones
– improve the immune system
– increase memory and learning
– control appetite
– increase euphoric feelings and reduce pain
Another great benefit of laughter is that it is best done with others. Studies have proven that we are 30 times more likely to laugh when we are with others as opposed to on our own. Whether we find humor on our own or with others, at specific events or during our everyday lives, laughter is just downright healthy. Science has even found that those who have a good sense of humor and can laugh at everyday events are likely to live longer and happier lives than those that have a harder time laughing.
So, if you are feeling a little down this January, or if you just want to get together and have a good chuckle, call up that friend or relative that can always seem to get you to laugh, find a good comedy and invite someone to watch it with you, or swing by Primrose and see what’s on our calendar. After all, living on the lighter side of life may be just what the doctor ordered!
