Veteran’s Day is a Time to say “Thank You”

By | November 8, 2013

We live in a great country. Sure, there are problems, but at the end of the day the United States is built on freedom, liberty, justice, and opportunity. None of this would be possible, however, if not for the selfless sacrifice of our Service Men and Women. Without their noble and honorable service, our country would look dramatically different than the nation of liberty in which we live today. We so often forget that our freedom is, in fact, a gift and one for which we must remember to say “Thank You.” Veterans Day serves as that annual reminder of our daily liberty. It recalls to us those who fought to allow us to live as we do.

Veterans Day, originally named Armistice Day, was first designated by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919 to honor all those who served in the “Great War” on the anniversary of the end of fighting during World War I. Since the Armistice ending hostilities went into effect at the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” Congress and the President decided that November 11th would make a fitting day to honor those who served in the War. Then, in 1954, in an effort to recognize not only Veterans of World War I but also the millions of Veterans of World War II and the Korean War, President Eisenhower signed legislation formally changing the name and intent to Veterans Day, honoring all Veterans of past and future wars.

We at Primrose are lucky to have a number of our Residents and Staff who are Veterans. So, recognizing the incredible gift we have been given, we want to say thank you to all of our Primrose Veterans and Veterans everywhere. We are honored, humbled, and inspired by your courage and dedication to purpose. Please know how much we truly appreciate you and all that you have done for us.

So, as Veterans Day comes and goes this year, let us not forget to tell our Veterans “Thank You” for all they have done for us.
