Gorgeous Grandmothers Katie Strohl and Mary Ellen Ester
I contacted Cato’s clothing store which is a clothing chain that offers plus size, misses and junior clothing to see if they would be interested in providing outfits for the staff models to use for the show. They were very willing and were wonderful to our staff as they clothed them from head to toe with accessories and shoes to boot.
The outfits included everything from jewelry, shoes, hats, purses and sunglasses.
On top of the outfits provided, I also worked with Apex cosmetology academy students to do up-do’s and makeup on all volunteering staff models.
The show started with our 2012 Primrose Queen, Mary Ellen Ester, modeling her gown for the crowd and then our 2013 Primrose Queen, Katie Strohl. Next we crowned our Miss Gorgeous Grandmother, Maddie Harter, for having the most grandchildren.
The lineup of models included everyone from residents’ great grandchildren and grandchildren to staff’s daughters and staff of Primrose. Descriptions of the outfits were narrated for each style while fun upbeat background music played while the models danced and worked it down a runway adorned with hot pink flowers.
Lunch and snacks were provided to our volunteers and models.
The style show event was a huge success. All participants received a Cato’s bag and purse mirror and also were offered 10% off their clothing if they decided to purchase it.
