Birthdays are always special but wow…when someone hits triple digits that’s worth a BIG celebration! We have had three residents turn 100 while living at Primrose here in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Lottie Rogers was our most recent centurion and what a special lady she is! She, along with her family, moved to Nebraska from Colorado many years ago in a covered wagon. Wow! There aren’t many people who can say they have moved by covered wagon. She taught school for several years after high school, as well, and some of her former students even came to help her celebrate this special birthday. Her picture display table at her party was even graced with a quilt made by her students many years ago. She must have been a pretty special teacher, as well.

It’s a tradition here at Primrose in Grand Island that when someone is celebrating their 100th birthday we decorate our dining room with a 100 link paper chain, each chain a special birthday wish from individual residents and staff. We also fill 100 balloons with helium which add to the decorations and at the conclusion of the party we form a parade headed outside led by our honoree. We then release these balloons in his/her honor. We had a beautiful day the day we celebrated Lottie’s 100th and how fitting for someone who’s beautiful inside and out!
