The Big Wedding at Wausau Primrose

Tony and Zoey Vecellio Wedding

On Saturday, June 29th at 2:30pm Wausau Primrose Retirement Community had the opportunity to be a part of Zoey (Executive Director) and Tony Vecellio’s Wedding Ceremony!

Every tenant and staff member gathered around the Primrose Gazebo for the exchanging of the vows. Zoey really wanted to share her day with the residents of Primrose because they are a second family to her!

The story behind this big event at Primrose was so touching that our local news crew came and filmed the whole thing. The news crew did interviews with a few of our tenants and the newlywed couple after the ceremony.

After the ceremony everyone headed inside to congratulate the happy couple while enjoying lemon poppyseed wedding cake with your choice of lemonade or red wine (Tony is from a large Italian Family, so the wine was a must-have!)

We will be talking about this day for years to come!

Congrats Zoey and Tony Vecellio on Your Big Day!

Father's Day and Hershey Party at Mansfield Primrose

Larry Berger wins the 'Ugliest Tie' contest

Larry Berger wins the ‘Ugliest Tie’ contest

Mansfield, Ohio, Senior Living Communities

In June we had one of our of our biggest parties of the month at Primrose which was our father’s day celebration.

This year we celebrated on a Friday afternoon before Father’s day which was also Flag Day.

A wonderful spread of finger foods was served which was set up in a wonderful arrangement made by Marliyn, our marketing director.

We also had a ukulele player who sang and played patriotic songs and told the stories behind them in honor of our Veteran’s fathers.

To top off the party we handed out “ugly ties” to the gentlemen that morning for them to join in on the “Ugliest tie contest.” Our winner of the ugliest tie event was Larry Berger, who sported an upholstery looking pale blue tie. He won a fun basket of goodies and Ohio State hat and shirt.

We also honored our veterans for Flag Day with a flag folding ceremony from the Richland county joint Veterans Burial Squad.

Billings, MT, Senior Living

When the 28th annual week-long Senior Sports and Arts Festival was held in Billings in May, several Sweetwater residents enjoyed indoor and outdoor competition and events. More than 25 activities were offered including a new Zoo Montana walking tour.

Sweetwater hosted the Wii bowling competition on the 14th with Chuck Dillon tying for second place with Bev Schillinger. Other winners and participants included Margaret Gasiorowski who played Bingo and Betty Harrison and Pearl Edwards who participated in the mile walk and in the Zoo Montana walk. Pearl placed second and Betty placed third in their age group.

Marianne Miller, marketing director for Sweetwater, said the group enjoyed the events and the banquet at the Holiday Inn, which concluded the competition.

Each sponsor has a booth where participants sign tickets for drawings of goodies, plants, baskets, gift cards, etc. “This activity enables people to meet others who enjoy the same things they do,” she explained.

Summer is such a fun time to enjoy the outdoors, and for many people that means staying busy with gardening and other yard work chores.

Many of the residents at Primrose enjoyed gardening throughout the summer months. They still enjoy seeing yards, flowers and gardens and can appreciate all the work that goes into making them beautiful.

Recently, the residents at Primrose Retirement Community here in Grand Island were taken on an outing to see a lovely garden. It was a beautiful morning and what fun it was to hear the birds, breathe the fresh air and see the pretty flowers!

Our hostess even treated us to cold drinks and yummy baked goods. We appreciated her invitation, had a very enjoyable time and may just make this an annual tradition.

Grand Island, Nebraska, Retirement Communities

I am honored to serve this group of people at Primrose Retirement Community here in Grand Island, Nebraska. This generation that we are currently serving is often referred to as ”the greatest generation.” I would agree. They have seen so many changes in their lifetime, are so appreciative of everything they have and what is done for them and have served our country so unselfishly.

What a neat experience we had recently when two of our residents, Veterans of WWII, were able to fly in a restored WWII airplane as part of the “Wings of Freedom” event at the airport here in Grand Island. Those two residents were Al Panowicz and Rudy Liebsack. Al flew a B17 one day, when at the spur of the moment a member of the community paid the money to allow a WWII veteran a chance to go up in one of these planes. Al was chosen as that veteran. We felt bad we weren’t able to get pictures of that spur-of-the-moment event.

Rudy flew the next day as a gift from his family. We knew about this ahead of time and made special arrangements to support him in his flight. You see, he had actually flown in one of these airplanes 70+ years ago. In fact, the B24 was the only plane he flew in, flying 30 missions over the Pacific during WWII. Once again, at the age of 94, Rudy boarded a B24 — in a much better situation, getting to fly “for fun” with his son — for a half hour flight over Grand Island and the surrounding area.

Rudy served in the U.S. Air Force, as a Combat Engineer, from April 1941-November 1945. What a celebrity Rudy was on the tarmac at the Grand Island airport, dressed in his red Hero Flight shirt and WWII Veteran cap walking around the planes, talking openly of his experiences and expertise from years gone by. Several younger spectators followed him and even videotaped what he was saying. As they expressed, “We just read about this in history books. He lived it. And, this generation will soon be gone and with that we’ll lose their expertise.”

What an experience and a reminder that we live in the greatest country in the world and…freedom is NOT free. I am proud of these brave men and women who have served and continue serving today.

Because we’re like a “family” here at Primrose, we took a van-load of residents to the airport to view these planes and cheer Rudy on. What fun and a proud moment for all of us!

Yes, I am proud and honored to serve these special people, people like Al and Rudy, here at Primrose as their Life Enrichment Coordinator. They enrich my life much more than I enrich theirs. They ARE a great generation!

Lima Primrose went on their first trip to the Hollywood Casino in Toledo on June 27th. Arrangements were made to meet Findlay Primrose in Findlay. Since we went as a group we got a $15 voucher for slot machines.

The Lima group ate their lunch at the little eatery in the casino. A fun time was had by the ladies and gentlemen. One of the gentlemen sat at the Craps table the hole time and doubled his money, another person won on the penny machines, and the slot machines were lucky for one of the ladies.

We stopped at the Cracker Barrel, in Findlay, for supper on the way back to Lima Primrose. Everyone had a wonderful time and was ready to head home. They are all looking forward to the next trip.

On the night of June 11th three lovely ladies were vying to be chosen as Queen of Lima Primrose. Edy Butler, Micky Jackson, and Jay Sain were anxiously waiting and watching the entertainment by the Miss’s and the Little Miss.

Two of the young ladies wanting to be crowned Miss Ohio announced who the Primrose queen was, along with her runners up. There was a big round of applause when Jay Sain’s name was announced as the Queen, Edy Butler as first runner up and Micky Jackson as second runner up. The ladies were all full of smiles!!

Queen Jay is an amazing woman she volunteers at St Charles School Cafeteria, she flies to see a brother in Arizona and then to see the other one in Idaho. She bakes cookies and she is a good volunteer at Primrose. She has two granddaughters whom she loves dearly, and a new great-grandson. Jay and Micky represented Lima Primrose at the Miss Ohio Pageant in Mansfield.

In August the ladies will be attending the Miss Northwest Ohio Pageant.

Primrose Alive with Colors on 4th of July

The 4th of July is always alive with colors at Primrose of Pueblo! We are all so proud of our Veterans and we love to honor them. This year we were so fortunate to be able to combine our celebration with the induction of 5 new resident Veterans to our “Wall of Honor.” The Wall of Honor holds a frame for each Veteran that has a photo of them when they are in the service and a photo now. It is in a prominent place in our Fireside Lounge and spotlighted for all to see!

The Veterans that were inducted at this celebration were Jim Y., Jim C., Walt B., Ed B., and Ed M. The refreshments carried out the theme of Red, White and Blue, as shown below, and our residents were all decked out in the colors of our Nation! Entertainment was provided by resident Nate P. and everyone in attendance was bursting with pride as the songs of each branch of the military were heard!

God Bless the USA!!
