Summer Memories Abound

Lima, OH, Senior Living

There are so many memories we have of summer fun. Lima Primrose residents were asked to share some of their favorite memories. One resident remembered that when she was a child her father would put on a big fireworks display. He made his own rocket launchers. It would last about a hour and people came from all over the countryside to watch.

This from another resident: “As a teenager some of us would go to Indian Lake to the Amusement Park and outdoor ballroom where they had top-named bands. After I was married and had children we would get together with other couples. We’d have cook-outs or go to Indian Lake or St Mary’s to have a picnic and swim.”

Another memory was shared by several residents who attended a Fourth of July service honoring our Veterans. On one occasion over 2000 people were seated in football bleachers listening to a speaker named Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Birdwell, who had experienced a remarkable recovery from burn injuries sustained at the Pentagon on 911. Sixty percent of his body had been burned and he required more than 30 surgical operations. Spiritually, he was stronger than ever before. Learn more about Birdwell’s remarkable story here.

Birdwell’s wife shared a message of encouragement with other burn survivors and a message about Jesus Christ and His sovereignty. A church in Cincinnati sponsored the service. They Honored every branch of the services. When they sang “God Bless America,” they all stood to their feet.

Growing up in Texas, you can’t get by the 4th of July without watermelon. The watermelons are getting ripe about that time and what better way to celebrate the Fourth than with a “Watermelon Thump”!! One way to check the melon for ripeness is to “thump” it; but if the melon is still on the rind check the curl and the spoon which are parts of the vine.

A Primrose Wedding

Christopher and Casey Renfroe

Newlyweds Christopher and Casey Renfroe

Lancaster, OH, Senior Living

Two weeks before Christopher met Casey, her grandmother passed away. Her grandmother always wanted to see Casey married. From her deathbed she proclaimed that she would find a true love for Casey and send him to her.

Two weeks later, Christopher entered Casey’s life, meeting her at the American Legion in Lancaster. It was love at first sight.

They became engaged on May 4th of this year and were married at Primrose Retirement Community in Lancaster where Casey is a nurse on staff. It was important to Casey to be close to her “Primrose Family”, her residents and staff at Primrose.

The wedding was held in front of the Community, in front of family, friends, staff and residents. It was a beautiful ceremony, followed by pictures in the entry lobby, and cake cutting on the patio inside the gazebo, with a reception in the Café.

Parents in attendance were Roger and Elizabeth Bieber, on the bride’s side, and Steve and Ardis Howell were on the groom’s side.

Casey made a beautiful bride and Christopher a very handsome groom. She had a maid of honor, Tina Wigal, and the groom had a best man, Nicholas Bermoy.

We wish the new couple a long and happy marriage.
