First Annual Party on the Patio

Party on the Patio moved indoors

Senor Margaritas treats residents to chilled drinks

Council Bluffs
It’s five o’clock somewhere, right? That’s what the residents at the Council Bluffs Primrose thought on a hot July afternoon. The first annual Party on the Patio was scheduled to take place where else, but out on the patio. However, the temperature was quickly reaching 95 degrees so the party was moved up to our Primrose Pub. The residents cooled off with fun and fruity drinks provided by Senor Margaritas. Mr. Margarita provided the residents and their friends with virgin pina coladas and strawberry margaritas in festive glasses with sugar lined rims decorated with fresh pineapple and strawberries. One resident commented that she was glad there was no alcohol in the frozen beverages because she had already drank four glasses!

Residents and friends donned their Hawaiian shirts and were each given a lei upon enterting the party. They listened to classic hits by none other than Jimmy Buffet. They also snacked on chips, homemade guacamole and Mexican tortilla rollups made by the Chefs of the Primrose Kitchen.

The residents and staff had a great time and were relieved when the party was moved indoors. The residents are hopeful to have a Party on the Patio sometime this fall when the temperature cools down a bit. The residents also look forward to the big event that is scheduled each month. Once a month the life enrichment coordinator and marketing manger get together to plan a festive event perfect for each season. These events can range from the party on the patio to a Friday evening night club to state fair day.

Sioux Falls Primrose Recognized for Community Partnership

MVP Award Presented to Sioux Falls Primrose

Melissa Dingler and Lou Clarey display MVP Award

Sioux Falls
Community involvement and support of the Sioux Falls senior population is very important to the staff at Primrose of Sioux Falls. Primrose sponsors a monthly card game at The Center for Active Generations and has met many great friends at these events, some of whom have even become tenants at Primrose!

The Center for Active Generations holds an annual fundraiser to help raise funds for needs to include exercise equipment, new programs, and much more. Primrose offers their support by hosting a week’s worth of sales at the event. Primrose brings homemade caramel rolls fresh from the Primrose kitchen, granola bars, homemade pies, root beer floats, and other types of treats.

Recently, Primrose was recognized as the MVP Community Partner for the 2010 fundraising campaign! Shelley Hanisch, Director of Development at The Center for Active Generations, stated, “We salute your staff for your hands on support for The Center for Active Generations. You all mean a great deal to us. Wear your medal with pride and thank you for your sponsorships and friendship throughout the year!”

Primrose is very proud to be selected for this honor and hopes to continue to support The Center for Active Generations, its members, and perhaps future Primrose tenants!

Gorgeous Grandma's Day Party

Gorgeous Grandma's Day

Residents celebrate Gorgeous Grandma’s Day

Mankato Primrose
There are a lot of Gorgeous Grandmas who live here at Primrose! They are gorgeous on the outside as well as the inside, and we try to appreciate & honor them every day. However, on July 23rd all of our ladies received extra special attention because it was National Gorgeous Grandma’s Day!

According to gorgeousgrandma.com, this is the definition of a Gorgeous Grandma:

Who is a Gorgeous Grandma? She is every woman over fifty, sixty, or seventy who:

  • Believes she has her whole life ahead of her, not her whole life behind her.
  • Wants to get the most out of every day of her life.
  • Wants to thrive, not just survive.
  • Cares for her mind and her body.
  • Remains adaptable to life’s bittersweet as well as sweet.
  • Cherishes herself as much as she cherishes her loved ones.
  • Refuses to remain static – who is always open to learning, to new ideas, to new challenges and to new experiences.
  • Loves life – and lets everyone know it!
  • And, for our Single Gorgeous Grandmas: Recovers after loss and learns to love again.

We believe these are important qualities to embrace & celebrate! So we threw our Gorgeous Grandma’s a special party! We supplied the feather boas & jeweled tiaras to wear, and dainty treats & sparkling tea to enjoy! The ladies could get their makeup or hair done, and we were giving manicures & hand massages. Our Gorgeous Grandma’s had a fabulous time celebrating this special day, reminiscing about their youth as a “young lady”, while being pampered and treated like a queen! They left the party with a huge smile on their face, feeling refreshed, confident, and appreciated.

Summer is going fast! The residents at Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island, Nebraska, would say that too, and maybe it’s because there’s so much happening. One couple, Homer and Johnnita Horn, make their home at Primrose in Grand Island and testify to that fact.

Says Johnnita: “Residents at Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island, Nebraska, would challenge any retirement home to having more activities than we do. There is always something to do and/or places to go. Crafts, Gardening, Pool, Wii Games, Bunco, Dominos, Rummy Cube, Daily News, Book Reading, etc. Musical programs always draw a crowd and we have a lot of them. If it’s dance music, we take advantage of it. Card games are going on every night and weekend afternoons. We really wear the cards out. They get lots of use. Just ask our Manager, Tom.”

Primrose Welcomes Red Hat Society of Lennox

Primrose welcomes Red Hatters

Red Hat Society of Lennox visits Primrose

Sioux Falls Primrose
Primrose recently welcomed the visiting Red Hat Society of Lennox! A current tenant invited her group to Primrose to share in a fun afternoon of dancing, treats, and entertainment. The ladies encouraged the Primrose tenants to wear hats of any kind and join them for the festivities.

The tenants enjoyed visiting with the Red Hat members who came fully dressed in their purple attire and bright red hats. It was a great opportunity for our Primrose member to get to accommodate her entire group and let them visit with some of the other tenants at Primrose. Many of the society members recognized some of the tenants at Primrose, and the reminiscing became almost as important as the event itself!

Outside groups are always welcome to visit Primrose or use one of our lovely community rooms to host an event. The tenants take pride in showing off their community and apartment homes to guests and we encourage visitors to stop by for a tour anytime.

Families are also welcome to host family gatherings in our multi-purpose rooms. What a great way for your large family to get together in one location!

Residents Enjoy Garden Club

Residents enjoy gardening club

Council Bluffs Primrose
It was no big surprise that many ladies at the Council Bluffs Primrose grabbed their gloves and put on their hats to join the Gardening Club — gardening has always been a hobby to many of them.

The Club’s first priority was visiting Diller Greenhouses where they partnered up and picked out certain flowers for their planters around the gazebo at Primrose. The ladies meet regularly to clean, water and admire the flowers, and trim the roses from time to time.

They make sure to always have coffee and a little dessert to go along with the ensuing conversation that happens whenever they garden.

Their plans for September are to visit the botanical gardens and take a trip to the zoo to see the butterfly exhibit. They also plan to host a movie night with refreshments, where the movie of the evening will be “The Secret Garden.”

And just because winter will eventually arrive doesn’t mean they will stop: the Gardening Club plans to attend community activities pertaining to gardening, flower shows and of course, anything to do with poinsettias!
